About Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street Synopsis
in the late 1960s, Joan Ganz Cooney, a socially conscious female television executive, was working in the nascent world of public television. His friend Lloyd Morrisett, who worked for the Carnegie Corporation in New York and was an expert on the psychological work of preschool children, asked him to conduct a revolutionary experiment. Can Joan make a children’s program that will “master the addictive qualities of television and do something good with them”?
Inspired by the civil rights movement, Joan and Lloyd, they took it a step further this experiment in the use of the environment and all the new television to educate children, and especially America’s “inner city kids” systemic racism and systemic racism and poverty had created. It was the right project at the right time, and he needed the right group of people to make it happen.
To take advantage of the developing power of television and create an educational, effective and entertaining show that can reach children all over the country. Cooney hired visionary Muppets creator Jim Henson and children’s television writer and director Jon Stone to create the iconic and uplifting world of Sesame Street.
Street Gang: How We Got To Sesame Street The first two are the Sesame Street “gang”, which focuses on experimental and groundbreaking decades, highlighting this visionary
In interviews with the surviving original creators and their families, we hear and see how the “gang” decamped together. They share stories of the challenges and obstacles needed to create the show and its iconic characters, and also talk about crossing boundaries that stand in their way with a fearless purpose. All with a bad sense of humor and pure joy. The gang knew they were part of something special, critically important and bigger than themselves.
Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street is reintroducing the world to Joan’s gang. With exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with the original cast and creators, viewers will meet people who boldly interpret radical changes in society and engage children in ways that entertain and educate them like never before.
Now is the time to tell the story of the show’s origins and inspire people to make a positive impact in our world by using purpose and the power of creativity.
